The MIND Befriending SIR GAR was launched in 1992 following local research which indicated a need for an informal network of Volunteers to enable people experiencing mental distress to live more fulfilling lives in the community.
In 2002 further research in the county of Carmarthenshire indicated a very similar need.
In order to meet this need the MIND Befriending SIR GAR was extended throughout the County of Carmarthenshire. The expanded scheme is funded by Supporting People Services, which is a Government initiative for supporting people in their own homes.
Services are jointly planned through the County's Housing, Health & Social Care Department.
